With respect to whether Keynes was right or wrong, I have no opinion. What I do believe is that governments fear unemployed folk and for good reason (large numbers of unemployed frequently create unrest and/or toppled governments).

As you correctly point out, in the last depression, governments went to great lengths to put the unemployed back to work,... with many employed in the rebuilding or extending of the state/national infrastructure. I suspect that we will see similar activity again, which is what piqued my interest in infrastructure-related stocks a few years ago. Roads bridges and dams last time around, ....perhaps sewer and water (which is a mess) this time?
