You sound like you just started following politics. Hagel has been taking shots at Bush for five years.

Hagel is very conservative, more than Bush on most issues like fiscal responsibility, small government, and limited overseas intervention. On civil liberties and women's rights Hagel will not be very popular with the left. I definitely disagree with him on several issues.

But for some reason the extreme right hates Hagel, even though he has an almost perfect voting record for their agenda. Its probably because he is reality based.

I don't understand the Democrat establishment ... Maybe Hagel is the "Nixon goes to China" strategy. Hagel's record can't be Swift boated (at least not easily). So Hagel can be the one that stands up and speaks the truth: Bush is incompetent and delusional.
