My very point is that the civilian leadership should set the agenda AND THEN GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY! LBJ should have said, "We're in this now (or not); prosecute your duties accordingly and I will back you up."

Remember "Flight of the Intruder?" Where the pilots were given holy hell by the Admiral (played by Fred Thompson) for actually going after military targets, only to have their court martial cancelled when the President said to do the very thing they were on the hook for.

The President never should have put the military in that position. He's accountable to the people. As I recall, Nixon and Johnson both paid a heavy price, despite their meddling.

My model for effective warfare is The Gulf War, except for the part where we gave up before nailing Saddam Hussein.

My model for female military officers is Sarah McKenzie, on JAG. It is always a toss up whether she will kick the crap out of Harm or the other way around. As long as those are the rules, I'm fine with females in the military.

We have promotions of several Flags being held up right now by Senators for political reasons. I read that the AF General who was running the AF Academy when the religious investigation was held has had his promotion stopped by the Senate and will have to retire out.

We need a similar program for senators.
