You tried to denigrate Chuck Hagel, because it is frightening to true believers that a Republican senator would criticize the handling of the war in Iraq. By your standards, Senator Ted Kennedy would be a leading senator (he heads important committees, etc.) Whether someone decides to run for president is their decision. You can't decide that he is not a candidate. I find this whole discussion absolutely ridiculous, incidentally. It would be much more interesting to talk about what Hagel actually said. Why don't you form a cogent argument and refute what he said about the war? Now that would be interesting, and constructive.
