It's based on Islamic dictates, and certain clerics' interpretation of same. Same things the terrorist extremists use to justify their violence toward non muslims.

The proposed constitution is a joke.

I think we all hope that is true. Going back to the 18th century is a big improvement on reverting to the 9th century, but they were living in a classic 20th century despotic secular state before all this happened, so please forgive some of us who aren't too sure this is a step forward.
