an easy fix of that is hold down your shift key when you click on a link to take you to those messages, opens up a new window and your old place remains.

Jeffrey, I'm not 'SI Dave' but ... I would recommend either using Back on your browser ... or make a duplicate of the subject page before you start "skimming". On MS IE6 (and probably a lot of older versions), a duplicate is made with "Ctrl-N".
