I definitely agree with you and never meant to equate the two. Apologies for the misunderstanding. Democracies take many forms and some are more genuine than others. (Given your profession, I am sure that you no doubt already realize the humor in both of us referring to the US as a democracy when it is, in fact, a republic, and Iran claims to be an Islamic Republic, not an Islamic Democracy.)
