Fat Boy Slim has had more impact (sales, concerts, ad music) in the past few years than Aretha has had over her entire career. Green Day stacks up more than adequately against Led Zepplin in terms of output, ticket sales. Tori Amos vs Simon & Garfunkel? Another good match in terms of career length, sales, hits. Chemical Brothers are *huge* - just not in the US.

Etc etc etc.

Many of the acts you mention are considered "legendary" - but very few people under the age of 40 actually listen to them. They've become historical relics, frankly.
