I believe that Aretha Franklin and Led Zeppelin will be remembered for the next 50-100 years. I don't believe Green Day and Fatboy slim will achieve that honor.

You do realize that at 40, I was not around when Aretha had her "hits", right? I was a music buyer in the late 70s and 80s. Even I knew, as a college student in the late 80s that music was going downhill then. We started listening to 8 year old U2 albums at parties at Berkeley. 86/87 seemed to have been the turning point.

But you are talking about one or two songs that make an impact on a certain person and event. I am talking about the state of music and movies in general. I hated Country and Western music for decades, but now I honestly feel much of the best music today is coming from that area.

It shocks me to even think I said that, LOL!

Your cheating heart!

BTRW I was raised in Detroit in the 50's 60's and loved Motown music.

Let's get it on!

>>for the kids who are having first love, first sex, first breakup, first time leaving home, going to college ... Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins and Eminem are the defining point of 'real music'. In 2025-30, when they're 40-50, they're gonna be on this very thread saying, "Today's music sucks. 'Real music' was back in 2005.<<

Bill -

When you're right, you're right. The music that people come of age with is the music they love all their lives.

Except I doubt that they'll be on this thread. I expect it will be long gone by then.
