Helms? Now wonder why someone might wish bad on him?

1963 Jesse Helms: "The Negro cannot count forever on the kind of restraint that's thus far left him free to clog the streets, disrupt traffic, and interfere with other men's rights."

1987 Jesse Helms: "The only way to stop AIDS is to stop the disgusting and immoral activities that continue to spread the disease."

1994 Jesse Helms, on the President's unpopularity in North Carolina: "Mr. Clinton better watch out if he comes down here. He'd better have a bodyguard."

1986 Jesse Helms, concerning the protests during his visit to Mexico: "All Latins are volatile people. Hence, I was not surprised at the volatile reaction."

"Your tax dollars are being used to pay for grade school classes that teach our children that
CANNIBALISM, WIFE-SWAPPING, and the MURDER of infants and the elderly are acceptable behavior. '' Part of the text of a fundraising mailer sent out by the Helms campaign.

“As for homosexuality, The Bible judges it, I do not,” Helms replied. “There is no justification for AIDS funding far exceeding that for other killer diseases such as cancer, heart trouble, etc. As for [your son] Mark, I wish he had not played Russian roulette in his sexual activity,” he added. “There is no escaping the reality of what happened.”

And this Bush gem for a good ending:

"I don't know that atheists should be considered citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."
--President George Bush, August 27, 1988
