I'm fairly sure you use federal reserve notes, checks, and electronic debit transfers (something that is even cheaper than paper to manufacture, BTW) to perform most of your monetary exchanges. So what is your point?

BTW, I'm not trying to convince you that paper money is better than gold. Not my point at all, as in a free market each of us would be able to choose our preferred media of exchange and stores of value. The real point was to address the fallacies asserted in your post – because there are sound arguments to be made for a gold standard - just not the ones you presented.
