Rink, what if you use 84W for Prescott?

Dear Ixse:

Opteron dual core x75 has a SpecIntRate of 67.2 already ( aceshardware.com ), so 57 isn't all that good. The x75 would be the equivalent of a A64 X2 4400+. So in 15 months or so, Conroe will only get to where A64 X2 3800+ is right now (1.8GHz at 512K L2 each). The TDP, as Intel would measure it (their TDP < TDP("burn virus")), would be about 60W (the A64 X2 4800+ TDP("burn") was measured at about 67W IIRC). So the Manchester core is faster than Conroe will be by the end of 2006. At the same power, A64 X2 4800+ or Opteron x80 would get about 72 in SpecIntRate. Thats a 26% increase over Conroe's estimated end 2006 score.

Just shows you how bad Intel's current cores, in PPW, are.

Pete

I don't think you can extrapolate the SPEC scores like that. When using Intel provided information you need to take into account Intel's past history of exaggerated marketing hype. My interpretation of the Intel performance per watt claims are that it means the performance per watt at the lowest most efficient clock speed. If that interpretation is correct, you can not calculate top end SPEC scores with any accuracy. If the top end SPEC scores were going to be so high, Intel would be verbalizing this into a megaphone at the journalist.
