Re: 8/23/05 - [NCANS] Yahoo.com: You need to correct your blog Bob
You need to correct your blog Bob by: Mark_de_Shark (48/M/CA) 08/23/05 11:53 am Msg: 39221 of 39473 "About four months ago, a document went up onto the NCANS site with the name psaunders in the address line – that got the whole psaunders thing going - they assumed that the name on the document loaded up on the NCANS website was my/Bob's name - odd, that, given that so many other names have been on docs and associated items at the sites "
The name "PSaunders" was not in the "address line". It wasn't "on the document". The trail from the original author of the article, Geoff, to PSaunders was embedded in the document in a way that isn't visible to anyone who merely views the document.
The person who revealed the connection between PSaunders and the document went beyond merely pointing out the Windows account (PSaunders) that was used to edit the document, the location of the document on that person's harddrive and the name of the original author of the document. That person also laid out a very convincing timeline that linked the dirtydirtydeeds alias to the dates and times of the document edits.
In addition, prior to revealing the information embedded in the document, the poster posted a message asking who PSaunders was. Almost immediately a poster who has never posted before popped up and replied. Immediately prior to posting the reply that person made an edit to their Yahoo ID. That poster has never been heard from since.
Just thought you might want to correct your blog, the original posts are available except for the dirtydirtydeeds posts as they were deleted when your Yahoo account was terminated for your abusive posting.

Re: You need to correct your blog Bob by: easter_bunny_d3 (100/Candyland) 08/23/05 12:09 pm Msg: 39233 of 39473 Right. I'll change it, although I'm not sure most will appreciate the technical nuance. But whatever, I'll take your word for it.
So what you are saying is that whoever was involved in modifying a document had a directory marked psaunders on it? Aren't we right back to square one, which is to say that at best, or at worst, we have a psaunders who is a contributor of content to NCANS? Help me out if there is a distinction here. As to the timeline, I suppose you've never heard of IM - odd as you are so wired. That and the telephone are amazing instruments of instant communication - you should try them sometime - modern miracles.
Whatever. Seems like this latest expose is a yawn - not surprising given that the psaunders herring was widely discussed months ago. Interesting that you are now following the OSTK board when the only board you were ever seen on was NFI, and only then up until a few months ago.
Could you please make the connection between the negative posters on the two boards clearer? I don't think everyone gets it yet.
Thank you for your time.

No, that isn't what I'm saying.
Microsoft Word can maintain a complete history of when and who modified the document (based on their Windows account name) as well as the location where the document has been stored.
It can also reveal what was changed in the document.
Few users of Microsoft Word are aware of this potential information leak and many people have been embarrassed as a result, including some public figures. The feature can be turned off.
You stated that you edited the document.
I rarely post, though I do monitor many boards.

Didn't the article say that the Breet guy was associated with him?
Is it possible that they all have the same word software, and that brett was the modifier? I'm following the thread through, and he is apparently the guy who did Lycaon - so why is he not the guy who modified the document? Just curious.
And you never responded to my IM and telephone comment.
Thank you for your time.

"So someone with a copy of word with psaunders edited the document."
No, someone edited the document while logged into a Windows account with the user name PSaunders. The only other person who edited the document was the original author.

Re: You need to correct your blog Bob by: easter_bunny_d3 (100/Candyland) 08/23/05 01:20 pm Msg: 39275 of 39473 A windows account? You mean a computer running windows registered to a psaunders? That's it?
Mine is registered to Bob O'Brien.
Honest.
Really and truly is.
Now, I know you believe what you believe, and are convinced that my story about being unable to figure out how to deal with the graphics on the document in question is bogus. Fine. You are entitled to your opinion. But follow along just for a second. What if, just if, that was the truth, and it was sent to someone who was more technologically savvy to edit real time as I communicated with them? You with me? And what if that person, who is more technologically savvy, was also one of our contacts for web design and the like? Still with me?
You putting the puzzle pieces together yet?
In that case what you found was a tech guy who is presumably using his old company's computer. Gasp. Which leaves you with an NCANS member or contributor who helps us out on tech stuff. Exactly as was originally described. Maybe he, or Phillip, is a financial contributor to NCANS as well. That would certainly explain any financial contributions - "here's some cash, I support the effort, talk to my tech guy if you need anything" or "here's some cash, I really believe in what you are doing, let me know if you need any tech help."
But no. That can't possibly be.
It has to be more complicated than that.
Doesn't it?
Thank you for your input. I really need to go run some errands now, so don't mistake my lack of any further response as a lack of interest in all this - I just won't be in front of a computer.

NY Post writer Boyd, new info by: gnomon10 Long-Term Sentiment: Strong Buy 08/23/05 01:57 pm Msg: 39294 of 39473 After writing a skeptical letter to the NYP on their coverage of the OSTK lawsuit against Rocker and Gradient, the author (Roddy Boyd) was kind enough to send a substantial reply. Since I do not have permission to repost it in toto, I'll provide a few excerpts, which I trust will prove illuminating to the readership here and acceptable to RB.
Concerning the identity of the mastermind:
"I am working very very hard to find the sole criminal mastermind involved here. It is not easy. The discovery in the lawsuits will help."
Concerning Byrne's claims on Reg SHO violations:
"I have no doubt that on the reg SHO matter, PB has a point, and I will write something to this fact."
Connection to DR?
"For your info, I have never met or dealt with or talked to Rocker or his colleagues at his fund."
On the whole Boyd seems very engaged with the OSTK flap; let's hope he follows through and keeps digging and publishing on it.
On the other hand, he was conspiculously silent on the matter of why 3D seemed so newsworthy and seemed in no rush to claim personal credit for rooting out the info on Bob O'Brien that informed the piece.
Perhaps it didn't hurt that I cc'ed my query to his editor and business section colleague. . . finance.messages.yahoo.com

Re: NYP writer Boyd, new info UPDATE by: gnomon10 Long-Term Sentiment: Strong Buy 08/23/05 03:45 pm Msg: 39319 of 39473 Out of fairness, I'm posting Roddy Boyd's response to my post, with his permission. --------- "You didn't really query me on why ID'ing him was a story subject, you just had a snarky aside. Regardless of your take on the matter at hand, O'Brien occupies a prominent role in this debate. It's a basic principle of fair play that you know who you are fighting. Rocker uses his realname, so does Byrne, so does Mary helburn (except when shes Mary campbell)and so do I. Also, the story here is not just the merits of OSTKs claims, or even their actions, it's the grass roots network that Bobo has helped build and harness. AN impressive effort. Hes actually a very impressive guy, IMHO.
But hiding behind a pseudonym struck me as both unusual --read:newsworthy--and unfair.
I did the research and wrote the piece. I don't know what you want more. Feel free to post." ---------------------------------------------
gonomon10's comment: In a follow-up message I expressed my dubiousness about Boyd's claim, "I did the research", especially in light of Mark_de_Shark's comments posted earlier today on the OSTK board indicating a close familiarity with the word file and its relevance to "PSaunders". To his credit he quickly replied "I swear to you that I did not use others research on the matter--esp. bits viz. Eisinger. In fairness, I have a lot of respect for Jesse and his work. have stayed away from [O'Brien's] blog and its contents since he took some cheap shots at me."
He further noted concerning Bob O'Brien: "I am distressed to think that people think [Bob O'Brien] is some James dale davidson fraudster. My research indicates that hes a successful businessman and in my convos with him--three--hes shown himself to be very well-versed in many complicated areas. He has an agenda to be sure, but hes no penny stock tout, again, so fasr as my work indicates."
Roddy Boyd scores points with me for being forthright in responding to email, but there are still some shadows lingering over his pursuit of O'Brien, IMO. I'll look forward to his further pieces on OSTK.
