northwest just canceled an additional 400 flight schedules. strike having some impact. this cut back is on top of the early switch to fall flights as the strike hit. i believe that was a reduction in 400 flights. in all there may be about 800 less flights per day.

NWA would have failed 10 years ago but the State of MN threw several hundreds of millions in loan guarantees at them in exchange for a promise to hire X amount of Minnesotans. They blew through the loans and never hired a fraction of the promised employees.

What can Washington do to help? Apart from butting out of Northwest's labor scrap -- another benefit of Congress being out of session -- the politicians could stop handing out more taxpayer cash to prevent any airline from failing.
