Having SGI boxes in the past I've talked a bit with people from that company.

There seemed to be some animosity between them & Apple, not sure where it came from. Maybe they had to use that stupid "move mouse on window to make it active" concept due to Apple's early litigative period?

SGI's service used to OK, they want you to have a "service contract" without which they gave you a bit of a hard time, but if you poke them enough (and spend the $$$) you can get parts & service - just a few extra hoops.

But recently I needed a part - overpriced as usual, can't use "industry standard part" due to SGI's fancy connector thingy as usual - it was in stock, I was willing to order next morning delivery, here's my credit card number - but they needed more than a week to send it out. Fortunately I found a third party that sold me a refurbished part.

I guess they're trying to out-Dell Dell. (exciting! race for last place!)

But if the computer was a Dell, I could have used a Compaq part.

And even more fortunately, the software vendor's latest version works on Linux...
