If I were in charge of a network I would have at least one prime time show that reported nothing but POSITIVE articles about the USA and accomplishments around the world. Of course I would focus a lot on Iraq and through interviews with our Warriors and even review of the military newspaper find these stories and present them. But, I wouldnt limit it to that, I would find stories about Sudan, Philippines and any place in the world where our Armed Forces are working to improve the lot of local people. There are so many possabilities its LIMITLESS. I think people would EAT IT UP and it would be doing a National service to boot. jdn

the author flays about missing the major reason FOX is doing so well

I don't think so. These quotes is key.

FOX has carved out a niche in political matters and other stories that CNN and other mainstream news channels have largely ignored......

These people who tune in to do so because FOX doesn’t share the same outlook on news as CNN (or MSNBC to a lesser extent). FOX makes no apologies in providing news about Americans for Americans

FOX has brought in viewers who weren't watching CNN. CNN can't get to them. They aren't interested.

problem with cnn is same with other news outlets , they are giving us their political opinions vs reporting complete news. cnn is trying to stuff down our throats the left position. people are waking up and turning them off. It will continue for as long as we do not get both sides of opinions and without the crossfire, nonsense. Cnn and others need to dump the explosive head talkers who cannot carry a conversation without being rude, loud and talk over their opponent. Trouble is cnn and others think this is what their audience want.

that article missed the most basic, fundamental reason, for FOX's ascendency, imo

people can get television news from a myriad of sources (actually a glut of outlets, imo) and the main reason viewers tune into a specific network is all about the 'delivery'

meaning for example, CBS dominated broadcast news for years when 'uncle walter' was the anchorman, justifiably or not the perception was he was a trustworthy messenger of the news, came across as avuncular, non-threatening and therefore his viewers felt comfortable with him and saw no reason to go elsewhere

what FOX has done has built a stable of well liked and well perceived on air talent

ailes correctly recognized that there was a growing perception that MSM was tilting further and further left and countered that with 'fair and balanced' promotion and most importantly of all, assembled the personalities that people would watch and relate to

the best CNN could do, imo, is woo van susteren back or an o'reilly or a cavuto or a brit hume or take your pick

instead they give wolf blitzer 3 hours in primetime...

wolf blitzer....come on...he is just painful to watch

MSNBC is trying to dent the FOX juggernaut by tapping former FOX personality rita cosby....they have the right idea, unfortunately for them, imo, they snagged one of the weakest links in the FOX talent pool

once a news personality establishes credibility and likeability with an audience, it is EXTREMELY difficult to make ratings inroads against them

it's all about the face on the tube, if CNN can't figure that out by now, then they are destined to be the perennial also-ran

It seems to me Fox has become more and more fecal. I seldom watch anything but Brit Hume.

But you may fox so you can learn what to teach your daughters so they can get themselves disappeared.
