Mike,
Meant to mention to you that I got an afternoon tour and briefing at the Acoustic Research Detachment, on Lake Pend Oreille, at Bayview 2 weeks ago.

Got a very close hands on look at the Kokanee (Seawolf) and Cutthroat (Virginia) 25-30% size models used for testing. Saw the old and new style nose cones and had many other features explained. I was the only one there who had ever rendezvoused with and locked in and out of a submerged sub (The USS Threadfin) at sea and had some great discussions. The Det CDR explained that Special Operations Force support modifications are being made to 5 or 6 current subs.

Walked around the new Destroyer testing model in drydock. Its body style is angled much like the Stealth Bomber...intended to deflect radar. Got a very close look at the two propulsion systems and impellers(in crates)...fascinating stuff. This one is scheduled for launch shortly.

Also saw the model of the underwater testing range and got briefed on the techniques employed.

All-in-all it was a very interesting, totally fascinating and informative afternoon.
