>>expected to introduce a 4-gigabyte version of the iPod Mini that uses NAND flash memory instead of a hard disk drive<< What would such a device retail for? The current 4GB iPod mini sells for $199. A 1GB iPod Shuffle (flash based) sells for $129 but does not have the screen, etc. of the iPod mini.

I don't know that this rumor makes any sense--who would spend the extra money just to have a flash drive iPod mini--unless the price is drastically reduced. I wouldn't put anything past SJobs though--he may have a solution.

AGGRESSIVELY WOOING APPLE

dg> How much ram storage is most desirable when costs is a consideration?

"If Apple can sell 4 million units of its flash-based iPod in the fourth quarter, that demand alone will account for 36 percent of Samsung's fourth-quarter NAND capacity of 11 million units," said Deutsche Bank analyst D.J. Yook.

Nam said Samsung has aggressively courted Apple, offering extremely low prices on its NAND chips to encourage the firm to switch to flash memory instead of hard disk drives for its iPods.http://today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=technologyNews&storyID=2005-08-24T101804Z_01_MCC411694_RTRIDST_0_TECH-KOREA-APPLE-DC.XML
