I would not presume to question another's choices of approach in saving another's life. The person acted at a moment in time with intentions. It was a values judgement. My values judgement is that there is simply no true advice that can be nasty or untoward when the point of it involves saving another's life.

"Mrs. Smoker, you know what I think about the health effects of smoking and I think you should stop. It's crazy to continue smoking because one by one your cells are becoming dead meat. Even your husband will probably out live you, and you know I've told him that his excess pounds are taking years off his life. Now here are some tips to get you started... etc."

There now, I've used the same concepts without attacking the person. And I'm not even a doctor.

Insensitive doctors may be dead right, but they are violating the part of the oath that says: "First, do no harm." The harm that they do might not be visible, but it's real harm."
