Yeah, but Lizzie has somewhat of a point. Other than the H1-B's most of the people profiting from the dot com boom were Americans, many highly trained making excellent money. My heart goes out to the laid off rust belt factory worker who went to college, got some tech skills on the promise that they'd be one of America's new "knowledge workers", and now finds himself SOL once again. Time to go postal? What's the NEXT "career"?

In this boom, the vast majority of the people building the new houses are from south of de border. I don't know if you've been to a construction site recently, but if you don't speak spanish, you'd be in danger working there! This is my experience in SLC Utah, Texas and S. Cal. The bilingual American hispanics serve as foremen and go-betweens for the gringos. I'm sure it's the same in all the border states, and most of the west. I can't speak for the rest of the country, but these are many hundreds of thousands of jobs paying twice what they pay at WalMart.
