You and me, Holly, you and me. Never used <ignore> and never will. The real problem is that so many people don't want to exchange ideas, they want to throw tantrums, bombs, score cheap shots, and stifle dissent. BTW, IMO, that's as true on stock threads as it is on political threads of all stripes.

For the record, just in case you missed it, I'd like you to note that there was a smiley ( ;-) ), after my line about being banned because I knew you would never really do such a thing.

"What's worse, I see <ignore> and <ban> used primarily as petty little power plays by the otherwise ineffectual and effete."

I could have written that. EXACTLY what I wanted to say!

I find absolutely no point to "ignore"; and I have just recently set up my thread as moderated simply because the current structure forces the need for some leverage.

People ban from their threads and then break the rule about NOT talking about those they've banned--AFTER they have them muzzled. Unless one complains to SI nothing is done (naturally). And many have no inclination to tie up SI ADMIN simply because they have seen fit to give petty tyrants and idiots a loaded pistol. This forces one to use other threads and modalities in order to deal with this scuttlebutt. It is a waste of time and energy.

All the "ignore" and "ban" should be undone. And the TOU should be tweaked a mite--IMO.

Ignores and moderation/banning

I've never ignored someone except as a test.

Every thread I started (two or three of them only) has been moderated, but its sort of a "just in case". I've never banned anyone (again except as a test).
