Hi Jim -- I think the point is a little less subtle -- if you pay 20 bucks to fill up your tank last year, and 40 bucks this year, that is inflation -- period.
Now as for the "pass through" -- there is no if about that either -- it will always pass through -- the question is to whom is it passed? Because oil is so central to so much of what we do and consume, its pass through in some form or other is assured -- it is only a matter of how the pain is distributed. If you work for an airline, your wages are cut. If you work for Ford, you are fired -- etc. Oil is everywhere and it will always pass through -- it is just a matter of who gets the bill.
