Maybe it did and maybe the racial divisions we see today are based on how different humans evolved, even though they are sufficiently the same to be part of the human race, because they interbred.

I don't know. It seems odd. Why did things start on one continent and not the others? When you think about it, life started out on the continent [excluding Antarctica, of course] with some of the harshest weather on the planet.
