I have patents in my own name. So I know the process. The problem has more to do with the rigged legal landscape than with viability of the patent. When filing for one of my inventions I realized that a company has a patent on screwing camera circuit board to the back plane to prevent it from shifting. Seems very absurd to me! But I had to modify my patent because I can't go through years of legal wrangling with them. See my previous post on some of the issues.
