I wonder if we are really spending only $1 billion per day in Iraq for several reasons.

1.) The military is paying contractors in Iraq with $100 bills, even though most contractors would prefer direct deposit to their bank. Why pay contractors with a briefcase filled with cash. This is so abnormal, it raises a red flag in any situation other than drug smuggling or bribery.

2.) The military is sharply cutting back on major weapons programs to free up funds to pay for daily expenses.

3.) The war has created a huge burden on the VA facilities for soldiers seriously injured in the war. While they need something like six times as much capacity for rehabilitation, they have not received any additional funds. I'm sure there are those who would claim that the government should not be paying for the treatment of these malingerers who had their legs blown off - but it is traditional.
