We were speaking of Juan Cole earlier and I ran across this scathing response by UCLA law professor Mark A.R. Kleiman to recent comments by Cole about murdered journalist Steven Vincent Juan Cole provides a daily reminder that a Ph.D. and erudition are not the slightest protection against being an arrogant jerk.

Kleiman to recent comments by Cole about murdered journalist Steven Vincent: Thanks for the link, CR. Let's wait to see how this all works out. I'm now adding this. If you wish to follow this, you can read Juan Cole's very lengthy response to these charges on his blog at juancole.com. The relevant post is on yesterday, August 24th. I don't intend to follow it. There is a definite smear campaign against Cole. I have no way to know whether Kleiman is a part of that or not. And I have no serious way to follow the ins and outs of who said what to whom in which edition of what.
