As I see it we are still in the industrial revolution and so far it is showing no signs of stopping. And that model is being transferred to the rest of the world. I am reasonably optimisitc on solving some resource barriers (e.g. much cheaper new generations of photovoltaics) but more pessimistic than the more optimistic types like you (solar energy is pretty diffuse). High price = shortage IMO, it shows how much other resources you need to sacrifice to obtain the thing in question at the margin.
