Maher thinks spreading democracy in Iraq is a noble cause .....

.......... I think it's an irrational endeavor.

Maher is essentially a libertarian. That's at least how I see it. He's in the huge group who view the fact that the "Great Society" led to a bloated bureaucracy as somehow undermining the intellectual underpinnings of liberalism. Again, that's how I see it.

Those are the two areas where I would see Maher standing up with the conservatives.

I wouldn't be surprised if Maher voted for Bush in 2000. Just thinking out loud.
