Eventually the anti-war people started to hate the soldiers, and the pro-war people started to hate the protesters and especially the families of soldiers or the soldiers that opposed the war. It got really ugly, I'm sure you have heard the stories. Patriotic Americans against patriotic Americans. You can spit on the mother of a dead US soldier that is against the war, and a war protester will then spit on a returning US soldier from Iraq. And it will go on from there. We don't want to go there.
