China's advertising market soon to be second to America's, says WPP

SIR MARTIN SORRELL, the chief executive of WPP, predicted yesterday that China would overtake all advertising markets except America’s within three years, propelled by its rapid economic growth and the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Sir Martin, who runs the world’s second-biggest advertising group, said that China’s climb up the ranks was typical of the “two-paced” nature of the advertising industry, with slower growth in mature markets and rapid expansion in the Far East, Central Europe and Latin America.
