Actually, you might need a larger home solar system, perhaps another 1 kw, if you're going to also run your car off your solar system via plug-in hybrid or pure electric. But, even then going energy indpendent is possible in 2005 without an incredible investment. Perhaps the cost of an expensive car payment, but an investment that will save you money each month on electricity, natural gas and gasoline that you won't be paying for. And once it's payed for, your energy is free!

BTW, I might pull this all together and write a book. I know there have been other books on this subject, but with oil getting a lot more expensive and alternatives becoming practical, perhaps it's time for another book along these lines.
