OPEC chief says oil supplies are "plentiful", so even he is alarmed about the gouging going on.

"Sheik Ahmed said oil supplies were "plentiful" and that OPEC has been producing 1.5 million barrels per day more than needed during the third quarter of 2005.

Existing spare capacity in OPEC countries, together with new capacity additions early next year, will be more than able to cover the growing demand throughout the coming winter and in 2006, he added.

Much of the new capacity will be provided by OPEC and non-OPEC members using lighter crudes in demand by the market, he said.

Based on such fundamentals, Sheik Ahmed said he expected some price moderation instead of further rises.

Did we invade Iraq for the oil? In large part, of course. The problem is, Bushies never told us that and deny it to this day. They also promised us that Iraqi oil would pay for the war and that oil prices would drop as a result of the invasion. Bushies are not honest people. That is the real problem. And Halliburton is at the center of their dishonesty. They act like they are above the law and are ripping off tax-payer money (and probably Iraqi oil) left and right with impunity. Cheney is responsible and ouight to be indicted for this. Cheer corroption.

Can you imagine if Kerry were prez and gave Heinz ketchup a 10 billion dollar no-bid deal to feed the military? Righwingers would be up in arms. Of course they'd also be up in arms if Saddam's family had funded Kerry's first company, as Bin Lauden's did for GW Bush. What a can of worms.

And we must lessen our dependence on oil. I am amazed when I drive around and see so many cars (and SUV's) which have their air conditioning on in 80-81 degree weather.

At least give it an effort to try and cut back!
