Poor Grainne. She has people from both ends of the political spectrum pissed off at her. She's not really a centrist, but you'd almost think she was :-) She's said a lot of things about Bush that have deeply upset conservatives on this board (and elsewhere)- so I don't think you have to worry about Grainne's feelings about Bush. Coug, no one is going to post exactly what you would post, except you. Alienating the people who basically agree with you, like Grainne, probably isn't a good idea. To have a valid movement, the left is going to have to have a big tent- and eating our own under the tent is not a good idea (imo). I'm furious with democrats who supported the war in Iraq, but I'm willing to let even them in the tent if they find a constructive way to go forward. I'm not forgiving them, mind you, because what is happening in Iraq is too horrible to make me want to forgive people who enabled it, but I'm willing to move on.

Coug, you just can't stand it that someone you'd identified as a good liberal does not adopt the Howard Dean/DNC/moveon.org talking points hook, line and sinker. Grainne is entitled to her views, just as you are entitled to yours. Guess you and she will just have to agree to disagree.

I disagree with you that it takes a sledgehammer to get people's attention. I am opposed to the excesses of the right and the left, in fact. I think Michael Moore is a gifted filmmaker, and I avidly watch all of his movies, but I think he goes overboard at times. I felt tricked during Fahrenheit 911 when he made it seem like Bin Laden's family could fly and leave America while the senior President and Mrs. Bush could not. That was not accurate. Why not just present the truth without exaggerating so much? That would be such a relief, and I think both sides would respect each other more. We have gotten to a place in American political life where almost all respect for the opposition is gone. I don't think problems get resolved that way. I think the most polarizing figures on both ends--and Michael Moore is one--should tread a bit lightly. While Moore has lots of fans, many of them do not seem to understand how repulsive he is to the other side. If you cannot persuade people who see another way, the spotlight is not the best place for you, I think. Fundraising might be a better job, for example. In a movement, there is plenty for everyone to do. Did Cindy Sheehan really say this? I find it unbelievable, but it is being reported in a newspaper, the Crawford newspaper, in fact, that endorsed Senator Kerry in the last election: Sheehan said that before she came down here, someone told her, "You should go down in a pasture near Bush's ranch and thousands of people would come and you ought to call it Turdstock, so let's call it Turdstock." 198.65.14.85
