The difference between FLA evacuations and NO, however is that in a direct hit, most of NO will be 20 feet underwater. There are some multi story buildings available, but there are at least 100,000 people unable to evacuate (most due to poverty). In a direct hit, the place will be an absolute hellhole with no power, no water, and no immediate prospect for return of services for weeks if not longer. I'd take the chance and leave, up to around 1 or 2 pm CST. After that I agree, it's probably hopeless.
