Police and firefighters went door to door during a mandatory evacuation here (in SW Florida) and requested that those remaining fill out a card with their next of kin and whom to contact, etc. The idea was to make sure everyone knew how serious the evacuation notice was. This was in an area where poverty is almost non-existent.

I would think there would be busses or something. Busses were used here to evacuate nursing homes, etc. When I went to a seminar in Tampa last January, some nursing home residents were still in the hotel from the August 13th Charley devastation.

How much would it cost to have a few hundred 2 1/2 ton National Guard trucks pick up people with one suitcase, drive them up to Baton Rougue, put them in an elementary school, and feed them MREs or school cafeteria food ?

Should be able to find 500 school buses within 100 miles on NOLA.

That's 10,000 people per trip, with only 20 per bus.

The 2 1/2 ton trucks could be running until 10 pm tonight, handling the stragglers.
