Those posts were the experiences of soldiers who went through basic training, JC. Not the editorial position of the NY Times. Surely you are intelligent enough to recognize brainwashing techniques if you look objectively at the kinds of training recruits are put through, the humiliation, the forced disassociation into only talking about themselves in the third person, the chanting kill, kill, kill!, etc. When were you in the Navy? I do think that in wars of the past where America had been attacked or was fighting evil on the level of Hitler, there was much more sense of being on a mission that was crucial and beneficial, however.
