re: The people will be mostly out of there when the storm hits.......

They figure there are at least 100,000 without the means to leave... poor folks without cars, etc. I guess one of the news stations is showing many, many people partying in the French Quarter... saying they always hype these things.

People in New Orleans tend not to take anything too seriously. They have one of the highest caloric intakes in the country with a significant % of the population categorized as obese. I can't imagine how that plays out in their heat and humidity. I think that's why they call it the Big Easy. <g>

We'll see what happens... down to 165 MPH but still one of the very worst. Without a dramatic change, there will be a lot of dead bodies floating around New Orleans.

The wind speed has moved back and forth all day. However, the central pressure of 902 mb, second lowest in US history, continues to remain constant......I think that more than anything else will determine the power of this storm.

And the weird thing about hurricanes, we won't know the real damage until about Wednesday-Thursday. The information just shuts down.

According to the station Harris linked us to, they are predicting rain in NO until Thursday. What Katrina doesn't destroy with its winds, it seems it will drown.

Hurricane parties are the reason why the Darwin Awards exist.
