Iraq is in hideous shape. Did you read, for example, the David Brooks column I just posted? I am very careful to post conservative opinions here fairly often, in hopes that conservatives will read them. I don't see how anyone could conclude that Iraq is in better shape than I think, because I am filtering information from many vantage points, many of them far to the right of liberal.

However, there are some soldiers who are not in particularly deadly parts of the country who might have a different view. That does not reflect the big picture, however, and is one of many reasons why talking to an individual soldier is not very relevant to the larger discussion.

Do you know a soldier there who is saying something in particular? What is that, and where is the soldier stationed, etc.? What is their job? Even though the front lines move around a lot more there than in typical wars, some soldiers are still fairly sheltered from exposure to IEDs and dead and dying Iraqi women and children we bombed the smithereens out of.
