Maurice Re: "Cyberspace" That is surely a valid theory for the distant future. And that truly is a popular theme in science fiction if you choose to lump together all the various "our creations took us over" themes in a group. Everything from Frankenstien to Ray Bradbury to Aurhur C. Clarke.

There is another maybe even more common science fiction theme which has mankind in the far distant future advancing his psychic/spiritual abilities and thereby becoming a "superman" of sorts. The classic "Foundation" trilogy by Isaac Asimov or the wonderful "Lord of Light" by Rodger Zelazny are examples of this view of mankinds distant future. To have an appreciation of this theme you really need to have some belief in an after life or at least a spirit world.
