You meant to say "that far EAST"

I see Lake Bourgne lies immedidately east
of Lake Pontchartrain...and I still think
it will track just a little further east than
that even--the delta, perhaps the western eyewall
brushes Lake Bourgne, and then on to Biloxi as it
changes to a NNE track.

Of course the Hurricane Center prefers to
draw attention to the fact that the entire area
under the Hurricane Warning is in fact the target.
And it is very sensible to focus on a wider swath
of potential devastation rather than where the eye
happens to track.

We are in agreement about the NHC, a very
fine job. It matters not whether it is a
direct hit in New Orleans or Biloxi, two
full days of lead time for an event that
they've been waiting decades for should have
been enough warning to evacuate--and clearing
out that entire lowlying area down there is all
that I have heard over and over on teevee.

I think the Mayor of New Orleans has been
just outstanding--very serious, has never
understated anything. Very pragmatic about
a very bad situation.

The only thing I would like to have heard was
that Amtrak was running dozens of trains to
help evacuate ahead of time. Maybe they did.
Seeing cars backed up on the Interstate sure
makes it seem like better Public transport was
needed.

I think the Weather Channel could have been
much less repetitive and given a lot more local
coverage rather than such generic repetition.
