Re: ... your presumption that terrorism is somehow a cause and effect result of US occupation of Iraq is false.

Of course that's false, but of course I never presumed that. And yes, terrorism existed long before we invaded and occupied Iraq, the purpose of many terrorists is not to liberate Iraq, and there are some terrorists that have world wide dominance ambitions.

So what?

In dealing with terrorism our overriding goal is to reduce it's scope and effectiveness and to marginalize support for it. The central question is how to accomplish that difficult goal.

People that are marching in step with the current Administration think that we're helping our cause by our actions in Iraq. My point was that we're not helping our cause by our actions in Iraq, we're throwing gasoline on the fire and creating deeper support for a growing number of terrorists.

That's the difference of opinion, it's not whether "we" created terrorism or are responsible for the grandiose schemes of world domination that some of them may foster.

But hey, as we feed the fires of terrorism and radicalize more and more supporters keep telling yourself that terrorism "may also escalate in direct proportion to the extent that [the terrorist's] goals are frustrated." Because if that's true then the more our soldiers and innocent victims suffer, the righter you are and the more smugly you can argue that your critics must be ignored.

Who knows, when the world becomes frozen by terrorist acts and people are randomly dying across the globe that inside out reasoning encouraged by the Bush Administration will lead you to believe that we're seeing their "last throes."

But I won't be so gullible. Ed
