It came close. If the storm hadn't weakened a little, and hadn't turned East a little, NO could be under 20 feet of water all over. Better too alarmist than too little, if that's your most likely scenario - and even if it isn't the most likely scenario.

Evidently the Hurricane veered a bit at the last few minutes, which is what saved NO from even worse damage. They, and we, are fortunate the damage wasn't of "biblical proportions", but none the less, we are just now seeing some of the damage, and they can't even get to many of the homes that are flooded. Last I heard, it is believed there are over 40,000 flooded in NO...and no count yet for the injured or dead. Over 50+ dead in Alabama to date.

The officials I heard were very responsible in their warnings. Some in the media probably did their share of hyping it, but then again, we didn't have to listen, did we?

By the way, tonight I heard that many of the cell phones were useless as well...to say nothing of regular phone lines. Unless people had battery radios, they couldn't hear anything.
