mcnealy and co did something interesting when they bought these two companies trading away much of his cash..what he did was he PIERCED the HOPE BALLOON..and what I mean by that is as long as he had cash investors could always hope that he would do something extraordinarily exciting or creative or transformational or ideally all of the above..instead, well he bought a tape company that sells into the ibm mainframe market and a marginally profitable service organization...Now he has forced the wall street research reporters into being REALISTIC themselves...now they have no opportunity to let their imaginations run wild and consider the POSSIBILITIES..Instead they now are going to crunch numbers and will forced to add the numbers of a very stodgy tape company to that of a profitless computer company. the pizzaz is gone. the HOPE is gone. the possibilities...gone. The model now looks surprisingly TAME and it will be, until Mcnealy takes his hatchet out again and lops off even more jobs and closes down even more facilities. And then the reality that his model is nothing more than SGI-DELAYED. This move has temporarily stopped the downward spiral in the business but in doing so Mcnealy has CAPPED the upside of his shares, the possibilities of which after the bubble burst, were always based nothing more than and a HOPE and PRAYER...And now there is no longer HOPE, unless you are Mcnealy and the other top employees of sun micro who will all reap millions and millions in bonus money for....showing up to work.
