Levee is breached and parts of New Orleans under 20 feet of water. Death toll so far 68 from the storm. But that's just the beginning, I'm sure on the death toll:

cnn.com

I was wondering whether this would happen. Levees eventually give way after getting soaked well. Huge amounts of floodwater too will be coming down the Mississippi from the inland areas.

It's raining here and will for next couple of days as Katrina remnants approach. Been very humid last few days.

Another topic:

with all the bad news it is hard to believe the markets continue to do as well as they are. And why is Gold falling so steeply today? And the dollar rising. All mysterious.
