I suggest that you support politicians who are ideologically in line with you. Do the best to get them elected as they'll need all the help you can give them.

Yes, there is always fraud whenever massive relief efforts take place. The controls to prevent it have to take second seat to the substantive efforts to do things on a very speedy basis. The cost of effective controls is probably quite large.

Taking care of folks who need it during a disaster, even if that includes spending tax money, is the kind of activity that separates us from animals.

No, it is not well-known that massive fraud took place in Northridge, though it wouldn't surprise me. Fraud is hard to prove; folklore doesn't require proof.
