Even without the hurricane it's a good idea to fill vacant spaces in your fridge and freezer with water jugs or blocks of ice. Takes a big load off the system.

<<turn off the icemaker and fill the box with water and freeze a SOLID BLOCK. >>

The guys who take the three day fishing trips fill gallon milk jugs with water and freeze them. Keeps the food in the cooler cold, then before heading home they cut the plastic jugs off the ice and chop up the ice to cover the fish.

Heavy cardboard makes an excellent insulator. You can fashion compartments and store food in them.
