I would pay the $15K to defend myself, and then I'd sue the bastards for frivolous harrassments.

It's worse now that Florida passed the amendment that takes away a doctor's license if they have three malpractice judgements against them. Given that many of the cases taken to trial are a bit of a crapshoot in terms of how juries will rule*, there is even more pressure to settle in order to avoid recording a negative judgement.

*A hospital where I used to work would always defend against any malpractice lawsuits, as they were associated with a local medical school, had very good lawyers, a great deal of sympathy from their community due to excellent public relations, and a recognition that if they weren't an easy target, there would be many fewer lawsuits filed against them. The record seemed to bear them out.
