Skied, past tense. I never had proper skates either.

I spent my life wearing White Loggers, the best boots in the world. advertisenow.com When I bought my first pair, they were $45, close to a week's pay for me and worth every penny. Now you can maybe get an old pair fixed for $125 or so. I'm sure they cost three times that new, and still worth every penny. I worked 37 years and had four pairs total. When I'm wearing my Whites, I don't fall. I'm usually in rough terrain, not on dangerous city streets -- that makes all the difference.

Whites are heavy and leaky, but when you put them on your feet go in like they were molded for your foot, which in fact is what they do after wearing a new pair for about a week. The arch is so high the first time you try them it feels like your heel is standing on a board. After that, they feel like slippers when you put them on.

I've heard that when old Otto White died he parsed the company out to the employees so they could maintain the quality standard he set rather than be gobbled up by some conglomerate. I'll always be grateful to him for that.

They are made in Spokane.
