However max resources need to be devoted to recue and recovery in this particular case. Now if this were not a tragedy of this scale, then I'd say shoot those people walking away with Wide screen TVs etc.

Excellent point, and one reason I advocated such a hard line approach in dealing with looting. Once order slips in an environment like that, things go down the slippery slope in a hurry. It's compassion, but it's "tough love".
