Personally, my heart really goes out to the people who would not leave their pets. I saw one picture of a man on his roof - or what was left of it - with a big yellow lab. I once read a court opinion that mentioned a man had been arrested in a National Forest and 3 months later the police returned to the scene of his arrest to find his German Shepherd dog still waiting for him, nearly starved. I have two who would never leave me, so I don't see how I could ever leave them. I imagine that the man on his roof with the yellow lab felt the same way.
